Latest on Sewer District merger

After more than 60 years as a stand-alone public agency, the Fort Ward Sewer District (aka KCSD#7) is looking to merge with another public entity to ensure your sewer utility continues to be cost effective, meet and exceed environmental standards, maintain fair and reasonable rates, and give exemplary customer service. Your sewer district board of commissioners is planning on making the final decision on this in February. After that, there’s a lot of paperwork that will need to be done, so the actual merger would take place several months after that.

The sewer district approached the Kitsap Public Utility District (which provides administration for the sewer district) to see if they would be interested in merging. At the same time the City of Bainbridge Island expressed interest in merging with the sewer district.

Your opinion is important to us — who do you think your sewer district should merge with? What concerns do you have about the merger? Please send us an email at manager@kitsapsewer.org or come to our next Board of Commissioners meeting on January 8 at 5pm at the Fort Ward Community Hall. We also plan to schedule another Special Meeting later in January.

Thank you!
